The Heart Of The Matter

The Heart Of The Matter

People are at the heart of Christmas; and at the heart of our communities – however rural and remote.

In a world that revolves around money and commerce, we need inspiring people creating businesses and employment ..and enrolling and training others to do the same… through the generations.

On Monday I met one such person.. Jacquie Brown.. who began her well-known and award-winning beauty salon in Dumfries some 30 years ago. It is absolutely impossible to overlook Jacquie. Such is the force of her vitality that she alone could power the region’s Christmas lights… and Wendy, the manager, would suffice as back-up generator – should the power fail!

I was lucky to visit the salon for the first time earlier this week.. where I met most of the team. They are each lovely people in their own right, and bring unique skills and strengths to their work. Kerry – the beauty therapist allocated to me – listened sweetly as I rambled.. with real warmth, and a clear interest in me and my lifestyle. Jacquie’s intensive training of her staff – with a commitment not just to the person ‘without’ but also to the person ‘within’ – shows through in their manner and professionalism.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder they say… and if Jacquies Salon was a film it would be the lovechild of Sex and the City and Breakfast at Tiffanys.

Whether a reluctant celebrity (hardly!) …

Or not…

..the staff of Jacquies will take you on a client journey to restore, rejuvenate, and to nourish your well-being and inner beauty.

One of my passions is the encouragement of young people’s confidence and self-expression. In particular – finding out what it is they are good at and turning it into a way of expressing themselves and earning a living. Larglea Confidential aims to do all it can to promote those living and working here in Dumfries and Galloway. To those locally who know Jacquie – her own work with the young in this respect needs no introduction here. It should therefore come as no surprise that she and her staff are warm and approachable – with a welcome for allcomers to the door of the Salon on Whitesands in Dumfries.

In a blog normally centred around all things landscape related – I have no hesitation in recommending a business that is fronted by the force of nature that is Jacquie. Seems like a perfect symbiosis of land and people to me.

Naturally there are many wonderful treatments and offers available for Christmas…the website is as deliscious as a sweetshop..visit ..for all the goodies, and have yourself a Merry Little Christmas.. now!
