The view back along the peninsula of the Mull Of Galloway is my first sight as I step out of the car – I’m stunned to silence.

Almost surrounded by the sea, the cafe sits on the cliff’s edge..

Reached via a stretch of remote coastline, dotted with a string of beaches like a winding, broken sapphire necklace.

All has been designed to maximise the views..

Where once only those who kept the lighthouse lived.

Where the waters of the Solway merge with those of the Irish Sea, the sapphires turn to emeralds.

An enterprising farming family have here opened the beautiful Gallie Craig Cafe – so well-designed that it is not visible until you arrive.

It turns out they serve good coffee in heaven.
